Cheerful Commitment

Robert “Bob” Schroder ’27P and Adrienne Tsang ’27P, both lifelong residents of the Greater Boston area, have always valued education and community. Their academic journeys led them to prestigious institutions, with Adrienne graduating from Lehigh University and Bob from Boston College. Upon graduating, they worked in accounting and information technology, respectively, before settling in Westwood, Massachusetts. It was here that their daughter, Kat ’27, embarked on an educational adventure of her own.
Since the young age of seven, Kat demonstrated a passion for cheerleading. Her enthusiasm and talent blossomed throughout her years in the Westwood school system, where she thrived academically and athletically. This journey of growth and achievement ultimately led her to Providence College — a decision that has proven to be a perfect fit for her aspirations and talents.
Kat’s freshman year at PC was a transformative experience for the entire family. Adrienne and Bob were thoroughly impressed by the college’s supportive environment, exceptional facilities, and dedicated faculty and staff. Their initial campus tour and participation in events like the move-in day Mass and Homecoming Weekend solidified their belief that Providence College was the perfect choice for Kat. They saw firsthand how Kat thrived in this new setting, making friends through cheerleading and developing a strong sense of belonging on campus.
The family’s decision to redirect their philanthropic efforts to Providence College came naturally as they witnessed Kat’s seamless transition into college life. The close-knit community and the supportive network she found through cheerleading played a significant role in this transition. Reflecting on her experience, Kat said,
What I have really enjoyed about my time at PC so far is how much it feels like home. I have made some amazing friends and have found my home with them and with everyone on the cheerleading team. My coach has always said we are a family, and I absolutely think that is true.
Kat loves being a physics major and part of the men’s basketball cheer team and bringing energy to the stands, especially during high-energy games against rivals like Georgetown University and the University of Rhode Island.
The vibrant atmosphere, along with the college’s commitment to student well-being, left an indelible mark on Adrienne and Bob. The tradition of “Friars hold doors” especially resonated with them, symbolizing the welcoming and inclusive spirit of the community. The couple also found themselves drawn to the college’s sporting events, relishing the excitement of the games and the joy of watching Kat perform.
As they look to the future, Adrienne and Bob remain committed to supporting the exceptional experiences Providence College has provided their family. They hope to continue cheering for the Friars and contributing to the college’s mission, ensuring that future students can enjoy the same supportive and enriching environment that means so much to Kat.
