Global Learning, Local Impact

Francesca Bambara ’26’s transformative journey at Providence College began when she arrived on campus with an undeclared major, unsure of her path but driven by a desire to help others. Francesca quickly found her place at Providence College thanks to the welcoming and supportive environment fostered by the Departments of Spanish, Global Studies, and Sociology. Faculty recognized her potential early on and invited her to take part in meaningful projects—like the Intellectual Engagement Communities initiative. This initiative supports grassroots efforts to develop innovative educational and training activities that emphasize the role of the liberal arts in addressing contemporary social issues. One of her most impactful experiences was a service trip to Tijuana, Mexico, where she helped build homes for migrant families—an experience she describes as life-changing. These opportunities helped her grow as both a scholar and a leader.

Support from The Fund for Providence College has played a vital role in Francesca’s journey. It enabled her to study abroad in Madrid, where she gained confidence, independence, and a deeper global perspective. Scholarships like the Francis ’55 and Barbara Gencarella Scholarship have made it possible for her to pursue unpaid internships and immersive learning experiences. Francesca’s story reflects the powerful impact of donor support—opening doors to opportunity, fueling ambition, and shaping the next generation of compassionate leaders.
